The Darvaza gas crater in Turkmenistan is the furious burning crater known as Door to Hell or Gate to Hell, it’s a natural gas deposit that collapsed into a cavity and became a crater.

The year 1971 Turkmenistan in the Karakum Desert (black sand desert) near the village of Derweze Soviet engineers drilling the area to assess the quantity of oil as they thought it is a big oil field. In The survey they found the big natural gas pocket, as the gas released, the ground below the rig and the setup no longer sustained the weight and collapsed into the cavity that creat crater.
As expected poisonous gas was coming out and damaging the surrounding environment and people’s health, geologist thought it’s best to burn the gas off, they thought the gas would burn out in some days, but the crater burning from 1971 till date creating an illusion of The “Inferno.”
The diameter of the crater is 226ft and 100ft in depth is seen as the largest deposit of natural gas and now it’s a popular tourist destination.
